Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is famous for the 20 meters snow wall “Yukino Otani” and the highest dam “Kurobe dam” in Japan.
Located at an elevation of 2,450 meters of Murodo, a volcanic plateau, Tateyama, Toyama Prefecture which is in the Chubu Region known as Hokuriku.
We are going to share with you two must-see spots in Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.
Yukino Otani
When snow cleared on Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, the big snow wall “Yukino Otani” appears and the highest point is 20 meters.
You can enjoy walking between the walls in spring. This year it is held from April 15th and June 25th.
Kurobe Dam
Kurobe Dam is the highest dam in Japan which is 186 meters high, also one of the biggest dams in the world.
There is a new observation area where you can see the discharge of 10 tons of water per second.
Discharge water period is from June 26th to October 15th.
From an elevation of 1,508 meters of observation, you are able to see the view of the northern alps including Tateyama Mountains.
